Faith. Action. Sisterhood. These words caught my attention in a recent issue of RESPONSE magazine. As women of faith, we continue to be Christ’s sisterhood in action. The ministry taking place through our district units is truly inspiring.

Every day, women across our district are serving others through food pantries, clothes closets, meal ministries for those experiencing homelessness, childcare assistance, and countless volunteer opportunities within their local communities. Many also helped assemble mission kits during this year’s Annual Conference. The list of ways we continue to serve is both impressive and ongoing.

During Annual Conference, Bishop Sue shared a message that has stayed with me. She said, “If I love God, if Jesus is in me and I’m seeing the world through Jesus’ eyes, there are many things I cannot ignore.” She offered many powerful insights, but those words especially resonated with me. As women of faith, we are called to reach into the world and make a difference. We gather to encourage one another, learn new ways to serve, and celebrate the accomplishments of our sisters in Christ.

One wonderful opportunity for fellowship and learning is Mission u 2026, which will be held July 24–26, 2026, at New Creation UMC in Chesapeake, Virginia. This year’s theme, “Experiencing Emmanuel,” invites participants to explore biblical stories that reveal God’s presence with us as we embrace our heritage, face adversity, confront injustice, transform our communities, and discern our calling through prayer.

Please also mark your calendars for our annual District Prayer Breakfast, which will be held on Saturday, September 12, at 9:00 a.m. Additional details will be shared soon.

Together, we have the strength and the voice to confront the injustices around us. Guided by God, we are empowered to serve with courage and compassion. We believe in Him, and we must also believe in ourselves as advocates for those who feel forgotten or lost.

As I prepare this article, I ask that you keep our District President, Mary Preston, in your prayers as she recovers from recent health challenges and hospitalization.

I close with this portion of a prayer by Audrey Stanton-Smith:

“Loving God, thank you for equipping us to serve boldly with the knowledge that Jesus is with us. Amen.”
