The Shenandoah River District is excited to be hosting Annual Conference in June. With that comes the responsibility to secure volunteers to help welcome the Virginia Conference to Harrisonburg.
We will need volunteers in seven (7) different categories. We’ve put category descriptions below so that you can make the best choices for where you will serve. Sign Up to Volunteer
If you have questions, please don’t hesitate to ask.
Registration
Wednesday-Friday
Registration volunteers are often the first people that an attendee will meet at Annual Conference, so it’s important to have a smile. Each registration volunteer will be given a box (or boxes) containing Annual Conference Member badges. The responsibility is to hand out these badges as the members come in to register, making sure that the members scan them into the Conference’s attendance system. Training takes approximately five minutes and will be conducted on-site by one of the registration heads as you arrive for your first shift.
Directional Support
Wednesday-Saturday
Directional Support volunteers will assist with ADA seating, assist with those sitting on the floor, and provide general seating assistance.
Greeters
Wednesday-Saturday
Greeters are the extended arm of Shenandoah River District, welcoming Annual Conference members and guests with logistical help while at the Atlantic Union Bank Center. They need to be welcoming, smiling and willing to assist with the information desk, take messages, and lost & found. Knowledge of the Harrisonburg area (restaurants, streets, etc.) would be helpful.
Ushers
Wednesday-Saturday
Ushers will assist Tellers with voting flow, communion, offerings seating, etc.
Parking
Wednesday-Saturday
Parking volunteers will help with ADA support, designated parking, and traffic flow.
These volunteers will be outdoors in and around Ballard Parking Deck.
*On Wednesday, we will have parking volunteers in the Grace Street parking deck to assist folks attending Clergy Session at the Hotel Madison.
Transportation Support
Wednesday-Saturday
Transportation Support volunteers will assist and advise participants about bus transportation and shuttles to and from events at the arena and Hotel Madison.
*At this time we do not expect to be using golf carts.
Conference Set Up/Take Down
Monday, Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday
Conference Set Up/Take Down volunteers will be responsible for bringing in and setting up the stage (lifting), setting up tables for displays and tables around the arena, as well as taking them down after the event. Friday afternoon/evening we will need help preparing for the Ordination service.
