campers around a campfire
We are now more than halfway through another exciting summer at Camp Overlook! This year’s theme follows the missionary journeys of Paul as we explore his travels and the letters he wrote to the early churches.
Each morning during Morning Watch, campers learn a key lesson from one of Paul’s letters. Later in the day, Bible study groups dive deeper into that lesson or explore additional teachings from Paul’s writings. Our evenings are filled with memorable experiences, including Coliseum Games, Roman Times, an Agape Feast, and a moving Foot Washing service after reflecting on Jesus washing the feet of His disciples.
Of course, campers are also enjoying all of their favorite camp traditions throughout the day, including arts and crafts, hiking, archery, nature studies, climbing the rock wall, soaring down the zip line, swimming in the lake, and plenty of singing.
We are pleased to report an increase in enrollment this summer compared to last year, especially in our Day Camp and Mini Camp programs. We are excited to welcome these younger campers and hope many of them will continue with our full-week overnight camp experiences in the years ahead. Megan Weaver, a former Camp Overlook counselor and current Rockingham County teacher, is leading both our Day Camp and Counselor-in-Training programs this summer.
As we finish the summer season, we invite you to support our staff through our Partners in Mission (PIM) program. Our summer staff dedicate seven to eight weeks of their summer serving at camp, where they truly experience ministry in a mission field. Many could choose higher-paying summer jobs elsewhere, yet they faithfully invest their time and gifts in the lives of our campers.
Through the PIM program, additional financial support is provided to our summer staff in the form of an end-of-summer bonus to assist with expenses as they prepare for the fall. Gifts may be designated for a specific staff member or given as a general donation to be shared among the entire staff.
Contributions may be mailed to:

Or you may give online. Whether giving by mail or online, please indicate that your gift is for Partners in Mission (PIM).
Thank you for your continued support of Camp Overlook’s summer ministry as we celebrate our 61st year of Summer Camp and our thriving year-round retreat ministry. Every gift and every prayer helps make this ministry possible.
If you would like Chad to visit your church and share more about what God is doing through Camp Overlook, he would be delighted to come. You may contact him by email at chadhrbek@vaumc.org.
