As we near the end of the year, we feel the familiar anticipation of the season to come—Christmas! Bright lights, beautiful colors, thoughtful cards, gifts, and special meals fill this time with joy. One of the highlights for our women each year is the annual Christmas luncheon hosted by Camp Overlook. We gather to share a meal, enjoy fellowship, and strengthen the bonds that knit us together. And why all the excitement? Because we celebrate how a tiny baby—Jesus—continues to transform our lives.

We are indeed a blessed group! We have endless opportunities to form new relationships. This past year brought many meaningful moments: our Racial Justice events, the Spiritual Life Retreat at Massanetta Springs, our August Gathering at Shenandoah County Park, and now our Christmas Luncheon. All of these remind us who we are—a sisterhood formed and sustained by God’s grace.

At times we may feel overwhelmed by the busyness of life, yet I am convinced that United Women have so much to offer—to one another and to all those we serve. It is a good kind of busy, because we are making a difference. We are blooming where we’re planted! I encourage you to invite younger women to our events and to join us in hands-on mission opportunities. Encourage reading in the year ahead; and if you have a book group, extend an invitation to someone new. I can’t do all the things I once could—but I can still do something. Age is not a barrier. Every effort, big or small, matters.

As we prepare to welcome Christ anew into our hearts, may each of you shine your incredible light into the world. May you be filled with the same hope, peace, joy, and love that broke into the world that very first Christmas.

Blessings to each of you!
